Terms of Service

1. The service

captionREFLOW (the “Service”) helps you reformat SRT caption files into cleaner, phrase-aware line breaks, and optionally align caption breaks to a video’s visual edit points through a feature called Snap to Cuts. By using the Service you agree to these Terms.

2. Client-side reflow

The core reflow runs entirely in your browser. Your SRT text is processed locally and is not uploaded to our servers for reflow. Reflow is rule-based: it regroups your existing timed words and never rewrites, invents, or reorders them, and it does not use AI.

3. Snap to Cuts (free during beta)

Snap to Cuts performs server-side video processing to detect visual cuts and adjust caption timing. It is currently offered as a free beta feature for signed-in users who activate beta access. When you run a job, your selected video file and one SRT are uploaded to secure temporary storage and processed on our servers. If you turn off “Reflow captions before Snap to Cuts”, the source SRT you provided is uploaded as-is; if reflow is on, the generated reflowed SRT is uploaded. Uploads happen only when you start a Snap to Cuts job.

Free beta access may be limited, changed, suspended, or discontinued at any time, and beta access does not guarantee future free access. We intend to offer beta participants at least one free year of Snap to Cuts when paid plans begin, as a thank-you for helping test the Service. This is a current intention for the beta program, not a binding guarantee, and it may change.

4. Beta eligibility and acceptable use

During beta the Service is for personal and small-business use only. You may not resell, sublicense, wrap, white-label, or otherwise provide captionREFLOW or Snap to Cuts as a backend service to other users or clients. The Service is not intended for large production houses, bulk processing operations, automated pipelines, or high-volume commercial caption processing during beta.

To keep the Service available and free during beta, Snap to Cuts is subject to a fair-use limit of 10 jobs per day and 100 jobs per month per account, counted using the product timezone, America/Edmonton. These limits are set well above normal editing use. If you reach a limit, you can request additional jobs, but additional jobs are not guaranteed and any grant is at our discretion. We may adjust these limits for individual accounts.

We may also cap or temporarily close new free beta access if usage or costs get out of hand. This affects only new sign-ups for free beta access and is separate from pausing Snap to Cuts processing for everyone, which we may also do to keep the Service available or manage costs. Nothing here promises future access or automatic approval of a request. Abuse, automation, scraping, bulk use, or attempts to bypass these limits can result in suspension of access.

5. Your content and rights

You are solely responsible for the captions, transcripts, and video you upload or process, and you represent that you have the necessary rights to use them. Do not use the Service with content you are not authorized to process. You retain ownership of your content.

6. No guarantee of perfect alignment

Reflow and Snap to Cuts are provided on an “as is” basis. We do not guarantee perfect caption readability or perfect alignment between captions and video edit points. Always review the output before publishing.

captionREFLOW also offers an optional Broadcast Guideline Preset mode that shapes a 16:9 reflow toward published line-count and length guidance from a broadcaster, a streaming platform, or a caption file format, styles the preview toward that source’s safe area and placement guidance, and can show an advisory count of captions falling outside its published reading-speed or duration guidance. Some broadcasters are shown as coming soon and are not applied. These presets are practical reflow guides only. They are not a certification, compliance, or delivery-format validation tool, and using a preset does not mean a broadcaster will treat your file as meeting its requirements. The advisory count never changes your caption text or timing, and exported SRT files carry caption text and timing only, not positioning, colours, or broadcast delivery-format data. You are responsible for checking each broadcaster’s current specifications and confirming your final deliverables.

7. Feedback and troubleshooting

If you send feedback, you may explicitly opt in to share troubleshooting files so an issue can be investigated. Sharing is optional and off by default. For Snap to Cuts, this may let an operator access the files already uploaded for a job while they remain within their normal retention window. For Reflow, this may upload the current browser-side source SRT and reflowed SRTs together with your feedback, whether or not you are signed in. You may also optionally attach a small number of your own support files — such as a screenshot or a small text, SRT, or CSV file — and you are responsible for the files you choose to attach and represent that you have the rights to share them. 8. Pricing and future paid plans

Snap to Cuts is free during the current beta, and no payment is collected at this time. We plan to introduce paid plans after the beta. If we do, the applicable paid terms and pricing will be posted before any paid billing begins, and billing will not start without your action.

9. Prohibited use

Do not use the Service to violate any law or third-party rights, to upload content you lack rights to, to attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the Service, or to process unlawful material. We may suspend access for violations.

10. Service availability

The Service is provided on an “as available” basis. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features, and we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from your use of the Service or its output.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta, Canada, and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
